Earth is the only planet in the solar system that is known to have life on it. Hence saving the planet — its oceans, species, and lands — starts with us.
Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22. Worldwide, various events are held to demonstrate support for environmental protection. Earth Day 2019 Theme is “Protect Our Species”.
The first Earth Day was in 1970. Since then, our population has doubled. On average, each person is eating more meat, throwing out more plastic, and producing 21% more CO2. Our habits on land are recorded in the oceans.
The theme of SI Convention KL 2019 is “Soroptimists Enable a Sustainable World – Global Connections, Empowered Women”. We will explore issues that are driving meaningful change among diverse stakeholders as our projects are closely aligned to the 17 UN Sustainable Goals (SDGs). One of the topics during the convention is Climate Action Plan. Climate change affects everyone and all forms of life on earth. Women & girls especially in rural areas are particularly vulnerable during disasters and adverse environmental conditions.
We urge everyone to do your part on April 22 and for the rest of the days with activities that have positive impact on the planet.
